OSINT-y Goodness, №5 — Charged
Like most good things, you happen to stumble upon them accidentally. So, now I’m sharing my find with you all. Charged is a technology news hub which contains several multi-media features.
Unlike other technology news sites, this one appears to be run solely by Owen. Meet Owen, a Amsterdam-based freelancer and developer.
There is free content on the site, along with a subscription service. But, first, the free offerings. What brought me to this site is when I found this article in a Google news search:
This article, along with others, is on the Blog portion of the Charged site. It appears that there is a new article posted about every two weeks. These are longer, more in-depth research reporting pieces.
Charged has a Podcast section where you can hear hosts Owen, Frederique Matti, and Zach Grosser talk about a variety of topics like, “The LAN Before Time.” Conveniently, they have a selection of two podcasts that they recommend you listen to first, as an introduction to their show. You can find it at the bottom of the Podcast page.
The real meat and potatoes of the site is the subscription part, aka re:Charged. For USD $8.99 per month or USD $90 per year, you will receive what Owen called “Tech, distilled.” He provides weekly analysis from his tech savvy background.
There are many endorsements of his subscription product on the site, one being from Ryan Hoover of Product Hunt fame. (Don’t know Product Hunt? Maybe I’ll cover that in a future OSINT-y Goodness installment.)
Whether or not you should read Charged, or its pay feature re:Charged, pretty much depends on the answer to this:
Do you need to talk about technology and want a good go-to resource to keep you up to speed? Then, it sounds like this site, and possibly the subscription, are for you. Keep in mind that this isn’t a breaking news kind of site, and that’s okay. There are enough of those. This is a more thoughtful, more personal, quieter tech news outlet that brings you insight rather than sound bytes.
