OSINT-y Goodness, №8 — BNamericas
Welcome to the Ocho!
BNamericas is a great resource for comprehensive business and industry information in Latin America. It is mostly accessible with a subscription, but I will point out the features of the site (and how you can see some content for free.)
First, let me be clear that I’m not knocking that this is a subscription service. They provide in-depth stories and those journalists need to get paid. I just want to be clear up front that most of what I’m going to describe requires a subscription. I can also say, as a past subscriber, it is worth the cost if you have a strong financial interest in Latin America. They have great articles and insight. [EDIT: September 8, 2021. This pricing information is now out-dated. Contact BNAmericas directly for subscription information. If interested in a subscription, you can read more about it here. It appears as though single-user access starts at USD $79 per month. They also have a store where you can purchase data-heavy reports like “Setting the Stage for Industrial IoT” for USD $399.]
You can read the BNamericas site in English or in Spanish. Interestingly, not in Portuguese, which is what is spoken in Brazil. This review will be about the English site only, by the way. I no habla español very good.
BNamericas covers the industries of:
- Electric Power
- Financial Services
- Mining & Metals
- Oil & Gas
- ICT (Information and Communications Technology)
- Infrastructure
- Petrochemicals
- Water & Waste
Overall, their reporting covers things like Project Profiles, Business News, Company Profiles, Data, People, and Reports for the aforementioned industries.
If you are interested in their events or at which conferences they will attend, they have an events calendar. They also have a free podcast, in English!
Now let’s get to the articles. If you do not have a subscription, the best way to find their content is by simply going to a search engine. See my example below.
If you click on an article, you should see the full text of it along with a pop-up about how many free page views you have left in the month.
So, be strategic with your searching and your clicks. Latin America is an emerging market for the cybersecurity business. While BNamericas isn’t the best resource for Information Security material, it does contain some insight that the non-Latin American publications may miss.
BNamericas can also be found on social media. Look for them on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
If you are looking to get serious about business and industry news in Latin America, BNamericas is a good starting point. If you are a more casual consumer of news like this, there are better options for you. But, if you want to really have your finger on the pulse of LatAm and need resources in English, BNamericas is a good investment.
